i will be travelling from NZ when my date comes up to work in PACU for a two week period. It’s a long trip and I just wondered do we get a days rest before we start? It’s such a short time obviously.
so looking forward to it when my time comes
@GerryMorris Thank you for your desire to serve with Mercy Ships! For our surgical volunteers, such as PACU Nurse, we do ask them to arrive on the ship on a Saturday. This will give a day of rest on Sunday and then orientations and work do start on Monday. -Dawn
@GerryMorris thank you for being one of our awesome volunteers who bring hope and healing. My name is Jaxie and I am your Surgical Volunteer Coordinator. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am always very happy to help in any way that I can.
I traveled from Houston, TX last year and arrived nearly 24 hours later in Guinea. The adjustment period really isn't bad, try to stay to the normal hours once you arrive. So don't sleep during the day that first day or two you're there! I did go to bed crazy early for a few nights, but it got easier. You're gonna do great!
@GerryMorris I am glad you will be serving onboard soon. Thank you for being one of our amazing volunteers! I pray you will adjust quickly and that you will have minimal jet lag.
Hi @GerryMorris - here's a blog that has some tips for overcoming jet lag on board:
Hope it helps! Safe travels.
