Questions on requirements

Hey there!

I´ve got two questions concerning the requirements for "Ward Nurse (Adult ICU)":

- Do i have to have both, the ACLS and another CPR certification, or is it fine just to have the ACLS?

- What is meant by "Preceptor ship experience required"?

Thanks for your help!

Kind regards,

Jan Münster

Thanks for the great questions and considering volunteering with Mercy Ships. The ACLS and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation certification are required. The preceptor ship experience was a misprint on the website. We are removing the bullet line. Thanks for the bringing that to our attention. The main qualifications are as listed:
    • Current active Registered Nursing License in home country.
    • Current active Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation  certification.
    • Advance Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
    • Minimum 2 years nursing experience, including at least 1 year Intensive Care Unit experience.
    • Recent experience in an inpatient surgical setting required.
As the largest non-government hospital ship in the world, Mercy Ships vessel the m/v Africa Mercy is a most unique platform to bring modern standard health care to the forgotten poor of Africa. The third deck of the ship contains the specialized surgical hospital with 68 in-patient beds, an ICU, 5 operating rooms, PACU and full service lab, radiology with CT scan and pharmacy. The ship and her crew are a wonderful community and small town. In addition to the hospital, the ship contains living space for the crew, a library, general store, bank, post-office, internet cafe, and even a Starbucks. In addition to providing surgical care, there are opportunities during off time to experience the great culture of Madagascar through formal programs and leisure activities.
