Tax rebates - New Zealand

karink_24karink_24 Posts: 3

Hi everyone!

I recently found out that paying for OnBoarding and my flights through my local Mercy Ships office, means these expenses are tax deductible - which would save a significant amount. However... I've now just realised, since I'm leaving my paid employment for 2 years, I won't have paid much tax during this financial year - so I'm wondering if I can even claim the tax back.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks!

Karin

I have looked into this. If you do not have taxable NZ Income for the tax year, you do not get a tax credit. The tax credits you get refunded cannot exceed your taxable income.

    Thanks for your reply Travis,

I've asked my parents to make donation payments on my behalf, so they can receive the donation rebates. This seems to be a popular way of going about it.

    Regards,
